Most home based business owners do not understand how to use email to cultivate relationships with potential customers and prospects. Sure, a lot of people send the occasional newsletter or happy holidays message with sales for their product, but let’s be honest, when is the last time that worked magic for you?

- What is your intention? Are you hoping to share stories with your readers, provide value, direct them to your videos or are you only interested in pushing a product?
- How do people feel when they read your emails? Hopefully, your prospects feel that you understand their pain, problem and circumstance. The people on your email list are equivalent to a room full of people at a speaking engagement. No, they are not all going to buy what your selling at the end; a book, course, t-shirt, whatever. Still, they want to understand what you are about and feel good about who you are. In due time, they will take the next step with you.
- Are you creating excitement? When you communicate with your email list, you are usually promoting a webinar, a blogpost, or an upcoming event. Get one thing straight, you will never make sales online by being boring. You will however make sales if you know how to get people excited. You can do this by telling stories, explaining how people will benefit from clicking on a link or subscribing to your channel. The more people resonate with your message, the more they grow to know, like and trust you.
- Can people count on you? Are you connected to the people on your email list regularly or simply when you remember that they are there? It’s important that you remember that customers or prospects are not dollar signs, they are people with hearts, minds, dreams and desires. If they can count on you to provide information they need, relieve a problem, introduce an opportunity or even make them laugh after a long day you will find success.
